Manamusume was bred in 1997 by Fukugawa Agricultural Experiment Station, Miyagi. The name "Manamusume" means the breeder cares for this rice like his "cute daughter." Manamusume has planting characteristics such as disease resistance and cold tolerance. It also has characteristics such as a large particle, low protein content, and low broken rate at high polish, making it suitable for brewery rice.
